I think it is menopausal, but I can taste bitterness more in things and smell chemicals rather than perfume in stuff like shampoo. It's a drag.Would vitamin A help?

The usual vitamin recommended for perimenopausal women is Vit E and Vit B complexes, especially B6 and B12 (use Marmite on your toast its a rich source of B vits!);

Well smelling chemicals rather than perfume is good really cos there are a lot of chemicals in most products and you must be more sensitive to it now, it's your bodies way of warning you and if you're menopausal you need to reduce as much toxins form your diet and body care as you can to reduce symptoms. There are loads of menopausal remedies you can take with vitamins and herbs in. Try your health shop. And also chemical free shampoos deodorants etc.

I've never seen change of the sense of smell listed under the possible symptoms of menopause, nor heard anyone suggest it.

Two of the most common causes are Chronic Sinusitus (hayfever, colds) and lack of the mineral Zinc. Can sometimes be a result of low thyroid hormone.

The chemicals in your shampoo and lotions can be affecting your sinuses, too. I would replace them as they run out with natural products, unscented or scented only with essential oils.

I would suggest taking a supplement of Quercetin (a bioflavinoid) with Bromelain and about 15-30 mg. of Zinc. Temporarily discontinue any supplements that may contain Vitamin E and Copper, as these interfere with absorption of Zinc if not in proper proportion. See what this does in 30 days trial.

manopause can cause everything to run upside down. It's a drag. Try looking at your diet. A healthy diet will help your body stay in balance which counters the effects of the changing hormones. Find a book called Nutrition Almanac. It can help you regain a balanced diet and has suggestions for your condition. Also find a book called Back to Eden. Its the grandfather of all herbal books with natural herbal remedies for menopause.
