Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

scientific answer

procreation - to continue the human race and eventually evolve into a different being.

Religious answer

You could look at the religious view that life is a test to see if we are worthy of going into heaven or some religions believe that you work your way up by being reincarnated as better or lesser creatures depending on how you've done in your life.

Capitalist answer

To be a success in your life financially and make your way up to the top of the corporate hierarchy.

Charitable answer

To help others in any way you can, be selfless, cure cancer and spend every spare penny of your money on others.

or maybe just to believe what you want to believe, be the best that you can, whatever your opinion of the best may be. Make life excellent and have fun!

Personally I haven't made my mind up yet and probably never will. I'll be sitting there on my deathbed and shout, 'Oh my God! I knew I should have cured cancer!'

Oh and 42 is not the meaning of life, it's the answer to life, the universe and everything. We do not know what the question is to which the answer is 42. Unless the ultimate question is 'what's 6x7?' But that's not particularly ultimate now is it?

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

LIVE FOR WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DIE FOR

"Looking back over my whole life, unquestionably the best period was being a member of the Jewish underground. True, much of it was a miserable existence. But every moment I was completely alive. I was living for something that I was willing to die for."

Living only for material pleasure and comfort is not really living. We also need to understand the deeper existential meaning of life. Sooner or later, every human being is faced with the cold, hard reality: "What's my life all about?"

If you want to live, be real. Know what you are willing to die for. Then you are genuinely alive, and able to truly achieve the highest form of pleasure from living.

I think people are obsessed with knowing the answer to this question and I don't think there is one.

What is the meaning of coffee? What is the meaning of a dog? What is the meaning of death? There are no answers to this questions because they don't make sense. However, the purpose of life is whatever you make it..have a good one!

You are here by chance. You could have been flushed down the loo by a female monthly period. You are lucky to have been given the gift of life. Whatever you make of this life is up to you. Love it or hate it, you're here for a while!

I say make the most of it! You come from nothing, you've got nothing to lose! Enjoy.
