what can you do to a ringpop to make it into real jewelry? (i know it sounds gross) But can you paint it with something to make it hard and not sicky?

There is clear coat craft spray. It preserves bread and it shines, there are many types , brush on, etc. Any craft store has this. Also, wal-mart craft section ........ If you want to do it now I would go with the clear nail polish.

first rinse it with water. it'll make it not stick. then put wite-out on it. (the brush ones are faster.) that'll make it a bit harder. then paint it with watercolors. paint it red for ruby, green for emerald, blue for sapphire, yellow for topaz, purple and pink fused together for amethyst, white for daimond, etc.
