I live in Hackney (E5 8JA) and have to go to work everyday near Waterloo station.

Ideally, I would take the Bus and then the Tube (the opposite when coming back) and although this way is really quick (30 min.) it would cost me as much as 6 pounds per day! (the cap on Oyster card only apply when you take only the bus OR only the Tube I think).

How can I go to and back from work for cheap and fast?

Firstly, the Oyster card caps work what ever mix of transport you use. Only the penalty fare if you don't touch in or out is not counted. This mean that you will pay for a zone 1-2 day ticket less 50p = £6.10 or if you buy a weekly ticket £23.20.

Take the Bus 254 from Linscott Road to Bethnal Green, Central Line to Bank then Waterloo and City line

Buy a weekly ticket. That ticket would also allow you to use the rail service from Hackney Downs to Liverpool Street instead of the bus. This service is incredibly frequent and takes 8-10mins. You can then get the tube from Liverpool Street to Waterloo.

Number 26 bus from Well Street direct to Waterloo. Cheap, but not very fast I'm afraid!

Go by bike - free and quicker!! AND enviromentally friendly. And, as an added bonus, Ken won't get a penny!
