Depends on who answers.
1024 MB is 1GB is the proper exact measure
1000 MB is 1GB when it is quoted by generally the people selling the stuff.
ie, Iomega Zip disks, 100mb capacity but you can only get 95mb on them.
eg I was waiting in pc world for the guy at the pc clinic to finish with the person in front of me. A lady came up to me with a laptop box and asked if I knew anything about computers. She said it had a 20gb hard drive but when opening it in explorer it said something less. The reason was above, manufactures tend to say 1000mb to 1gb when really isn't.
Think bakers dozen(almost).

Simple answer... 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes
if you type the following "megabytes in a gigabyte" into www.google.co.uk it will calculate for you. This works with most conversions..

Mathematically, 1024 Mb = 1 Gb
...BUT you should note that hard drive manufacturers and ohers who advertise computer storage use 1000Mb = 1Gb, so if you're looking for say a 30Gb hard drive it will actually only be something like 27Gb.
