Don't listen to the people who say X is a hug! It is a kiss, and here is why if you were wondering. This is from a page in the "That explains it!" section on coolquiz .com:
"Why does an X mean a kiss?"
"In the Middle Ages, a lot of people couldn't read or write. When they had to sign a document, they would make an X in place of their name. In front of witnesses the signer would kiss the X to show themselves trustworthy. The kiss has since come to be represented by an X"
Cheers!

The "X" represents two people kissing and the "O" represents two people hugging (thus making a circle).

I always thought the X was the hug.. see the two arms top and bottom for both of them hugging.. and the O is the lips for kissing.. round mouth ready..
