Yes it is normal. If you want to see in this way, that person was there during your life during that phase for a reason but no longer plays a part in it the same way. Don't try to force a friendship-if it isn't there it is okay to move on and not talk. It doesn't mean that you hate each other or anything bad so don't dwell too much on it.

sometimes even if it was amicable, we really don't want to go back into any kind of relationship with that person, perhaps we feel it may bring back some of the hurt we had, sometimes it's painful, and maybe we are just afraid that we still care for that person and maybe being friends isn't possible. whatever our reasons this person makes us uncomfortable, and a friendship just would serve no purpose or bring us no gain.

I suppose it very well could be. If they are constantly doing things that you cannot respect, if they lack integrity, etc. Those could all be good reasons to not be so friendly. If you have tried, and it's unhealthy behavior on the other person's end, then you are probably better off not being on friendly terms so long as you don't spend much time despising them (why let somebody live in your head rent-free?).
If it's you who isn't facing up to your problems, then work on those and come back to this.

It's perfectly normal. If people can't get along during a marriage, what makes others think they can get along after a divorce?

Absolutely!! Don't believe all you see on television!! If there are no kid's involved you shouldn't be around them at all. If there ARE kids then never talk them down because kids hate you for doing that. You can still make the line of communication short.
Why SHOULD you want to be around an EX?

"Ex" means in the past. Keep it there. All my exes have fallen off the face of the earth, as far as I'm concerned. Totally normal. Move on!!!

I will HATE my ex-hole for the rest of my life for the bullchit he pulled on me.....and I see nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't interfere with my life--which it doesn't.

Unless you have children together, not really necessary to remain friends.... get on with your life, and find a guy who is available.
