That's the companies hook, get it? They don't make the $ on the razor. Once you buy that, you only need one. The big bucks are in the blades that you will always need. As to the question of why it costs so much, the answer is corporate greed.

Yeah, I'd like to know why they're so expensive too.
I was actually thinking about asking the same question.
I have a Gillete Mach 3 Turbo and a 4 pack of replacement blades cost around $8.00.
That's almost $2 a piece for a little bitty razor that cost around 25 cents to make. There's no dobt in my mind that this is a travesty.
I think someone should write the company and ask them why they're ripping people off.

the razors are usually fairly cheap, and the blades last a lot longer than those of disposable razor, so they jack up the price of the blade because thats where they make their money...........................
you may laugh at me for this but the venus razor for women, thats what i use....i've found it to me the most comfortable for my face and the yes the blades are extremely high but i can buy a pack of blades for it and they will last almost a year....they must make some seriously high quality blades or something because they last for a good while and every other razor i've tried wouldnt last half the time of the venus

Why are colour printers so cheap, and the refils so expensive? Its the same question, with much the same answer. In the first case, they are creating a captive market for thier overpriced refils, in the case of razors, they are creating a captive market for blades.

I think its a scam. They know they have you after you buy there razor for a promotional price. Then they jack up the prices and use low end material so you have to keep buying them at a high rate and at high cost.

I think we should all go on strike and stop shaving!! WHO'S COMING WITH ME??

Because very few of us know how to shave without them. They have us hooked and can charge pretty much all the market can bear

Not sure, but it may have something to do with the ancient Romans and the end of their empire.
