i am a person of colour. i am black but i seem to like the white race more than i do my own. i came here when i was 15 and now im 17 and i do not like black people. except from my family members. i tend to have this hatred passion against the black males mostly. and i dont know why. my family members tell me that i am prejudice and i am proud that i am , i smile when they tell me that. i dont know why. am i really prejudice or is it something that will change in due time.

Well,
I'm a black female (just ignore the avatar :D). I feel the same way in every aspect, minus the hatred part. It's not hatred that you feel, it's more of a wariness and disappointment that you feel about black people that I feel as well. It's the ghettoism that bothers you and it bothers me too. : (
Feel free to contact me if you need to talk about this. It's ok, I'm glad you're reaching out about this issue.

you said you came here 2 years ago. i have a friend who came from ethiopia when she was 16. she told me she didn't use to trust men. but as she grew up she has changed that thought. she says she has only dated american men. i don't think its wrong to have a certain prejudice for people. BUT! make sure they give you good reason. What I'm meaning is, not every black guy deserves such distaste. Just like not every white, asian, indian man deserves such hatred. I think you could be going through a phase right now. maybe from your past experience, maybe something happened to you or you see how certain black men have treated the women in your family. But, I hope that one day you will change.
I used to hate mexican men. I vowed never to date or like someone outside my race. But since I moved to a different city (the south) I have had a crush on my mexican professor, and now fallen in love with my ethio friend. Racism only hurts you. It takes away options of love from you. Try to see other cultures, even your own from a different point of view. There are some good guys out there, give them the benefit of the doubt. don't try to stereotype others.

What do you have against black people, especially black men? Your family members are right: you should be proud of who you are. Furthermore, you shouldn't generalize: there's good and bad everywhere, you can't and shouldn't label all the blacks as bad people. I really hope you'll get to change your attitude, every individual should cherish her/his roots, origins and culture because that makes us who we are; if you don't respect who you are then how can you expect to be respected? Be proud of who you are, always, and open your eyes: your skin color's history is made of ancient queens and kings; your beauty, stemming from that, is a precious gift, cherish it. Peace.

Hate is a very strong word. Be sure that it really applies.

It sounds like you are reacting to the hyper-macho attitude that a lot of young black men have, or have trust issues with black men in general. Hard to tell from your description.

You may want to see a professional about this since you may have sons one day. You don't want to transfer a sense of self-hatred to them.

You should think about liking or disliking people based on their behavior rather than their looks. It's perfectly fine to find one race or another more attractive, but how the person behaves is the most important thing.

nah, i mean, you shouldnt hate black people, just like, its okay to not have a particular liking to a certain race. personally, i dont like white people too much, and im white. Well, its more i dont like white americans... theyre too caught up in the world.
But i wouldnt limit yourself to liking non-black people, it may just be that the black people u meet you dont like.
i have met black people that are very nice.
