If Gavin Floyd was what they were getting in return, yes.

As for that Tigers fan... congrats on your 2006 World Series run. get ready to fade into obscurity for the next 25 years, just like your team has in the recent past.

Anyways, being a Sox fan, I am not too disappointed with getting rid of Garcia. He was VERY inconsistent, even in 2005. he makes about 9 million a year, which is a sizeable amount for what is essentially a #3 pitcher. I originally thought he'd be traded to make room for McCarthy (although he was dealt as well) but looking at our rotation now, I'm not too dissapointed, as our rotation this year will be Buehrle, Garland, Contreras, Vasquez, and Gavin Floyd. So it was like we were paying 9 million for our #4 or #5 pitcher, which is too much. Plus with these two deals we now have some REALLY good young arms for the future.

On the surface, a bad deal.

When we look at some facts, it's completely understandable. Plus Kenny Williams won us that 2005 championship. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt on this one :)

This trade benefited both the White Sox and the Phillies. Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd are two young pitchers, both of whom have the potential to be all-stars one day. Give Gavin two years and he'll be a number 2 starter.

Freddy Garcia gave the Phillies that number 1-2 pitcher they needed.

Yah they should of, although he was somewhat inconsistent sometimes, it's hard to argue with a 17-9, 210+IP season. Outside of the 2000 season he has put up at least 200 innings in seven of his eight major league season. He's being replaced by Gavin Floyd, a very very very inconsistent pitcher who has put up decent numbers in the minor leagues but has not yet proved he should be in a major league rotation. However, I really don't think they'll have to worrie about finishing last, the friggin Royals should have that wrapped up.

Ok, Georgie with White Sox still having the best offense in the Central its going to be hard for the Royals to be better then them.
My thoughts on Garcia is that i thought trading him was to make a rotation spot for McCarthy, they then traded McCarthy. Either trade makes no sense to me so yes I think they should have kept Garcia.

Are you kidding? Yes they should have kept him. Gavin Floyd had an era of 7.29 in th NL!! No he's pitching in the AL look for that to be at least a point if not two higher.

Garcia wasn't great but he wasn't that bad.

Yes. There's not much pitching talent in the ML to upgrade from.
Besides. Gavin stinks!!

I wish they did because too many deranged baseball fans here in Philly are talking World Series and it further proves to me that the "amateur" team we have here (too difficult for me to say the nickname) will not change. All they are interested in is attendance and that's it.

He's not the greatest but compared to Gavin's talent he is. The should have kept him.
