Loved the Rob s and Geof d answers, between them they created a balance of thought, they were both right I think.

Before I read these answers, my answer was - Thanks for the offer, but I am fine. I would put the same question to you....I felt that you needed others more than they needed you. That is not a good thing when dealing with people with problems. If you want to council people or help them, I suggest you get the proper training. Experience counts for allot, but you need te be much further down the road of experience to be of constructive help. When you get further down the road, your need to help others will disappear.

I was vaguely amused by your offer of help but you have, it seems, stirred a few people into vitriol. Well, I'm not among them, but I did grin when I saw your post. I would, though like to say to Geoff d (who lambasted all do-gooders and went on to sprawl his oh so wonderful CV of life experience across our screens, that we may bask in his hallowed glow of knowing) Personally, I think most counselling , 'trained' advisors and psychotherapists are equally as banal. Modern society restricts us to such nuclear, non community-based structures that we've lost alot of the 'group' help that ensured that most our ancestors had no need of such therapy. Look at the stats, Geoff. Get off that high horse before it bolts

Have you considered joining the samaritans or victim support? It's nice what you're doing here, but if you really want to help they're always looking for volunteers...

YOU HAVE ALREADY POSTED THIS QUESTION AND HAD VERY BAD REVIEWS ON IT
STOP BEING A WANNABE COUNSELLOR.
YOU HAVE NO FORMAL OR RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS.
I HAVE SPENT A WORKING LIFE DEALING WITH PATIENTS THAT HAVE BEEN LEFT SCREWED UP BY SO CALLED DO-GOODERS.
LEAVE SUCH MATTERS TO THOSE THAT DO HAVE THE CAPACITY TO DEAL WITH THEM "PROPERLY"
