Have any of you seen the painting of Angelina Jolie as the Virgin Mary it was posted on line today It was painted by Kate Kretz and is titled "Blessed Art Thou!" I have a link but it is so long I suggest doing a search of Kate Kretz, or Angleina Jolie , or Blessed Art Thou I found it by doing all three searches I would be interested what other people think Personally, I found it very distasteful and sacrilegious.

I find it disgusting. Our country has gone so far down the tubes in the last 20 years that now it is a wonderful thing for a woman to have a child out of wedlock! I mean they are now putting on a pedistool with the virgin Mary. I don't think so. I don't like A. Jolie, and I sure don't think her having a child out of wedlock is a wonderful thing. We should not be celebrating this woman.

Any picture of Mother and Child is a likeness to the Virgin Mary. It can't be anything but.

Angelina Jolie should be blessed considering all of the hard works she does to help people with so much less than us in the Western world have.

I think you are a bit naive and perhaps need to take an art history class if you find this distasteful and sacrilegious.
Again, any portrait of a mother and child is a likeness to Mary and child.

Just looked at the portrait. It is fascinating on many levels. Very thought provoking! Cool! That's what art is supposed to do.

I don't see anywhere where it calls Jolie a Virgin--it just likens her to the "Holy" mother. How many of us are out there doing the good works that Jolie does?

Also, not to get your feathers all riled up, but the original Mary was no virgin either--that is a myth in order to explain Jesus's greatness and the fact that Joesph isn't his real father. Aren't all of us children of God?

OK, just read the artist's description of the work. It is more about the cult of celebrity and the cycle of the cult of celebrity than about religion. It has several layers of significance.
Perhaps the poster of the question should read the artist's, Kate's, description of her work.

I don't find it distasteful I find it rather interesting. It seems the artists take on this painting is showing how celebrities are overly worshipped and deified to a ridiculous degree. Showing Angela floating above the ordinary and regular people in a store like Walmart going about their droll every day business. Juxstaposing a worshipped by millions Angelina looking saintly bathed in a glorious heavenly light with her children. I think the artist is making a point of just how wrong things are these days with celebrity worship. That is how I see it anyway after reading what the artist had to say.

Yea, I think its distasteful as well I haven't seen the picture; but Virgin Mary represent a lot of good, positive virtues. Not saying Jolie is a bad person but she has done a lot of questionable things and not so regilious things. But, I think its great she has adopted children that needed a home but no I don't see her as the new Virgin Mary.

Here's the link. How interesting, meaning the picture. Hmmm, I'll get back to you on my opinion.
Is it supposed to be above a checkout line at a store, or am I seeing it wrong....?

no way would someone with those lips be a virgin. =] i kid i kid, yes it is some what sacrilegious, but its really not anymore than actors play the roll of God or Jesus, so i wouldnt let it bother me so much. The "artist" will have to answer for it one day >:)

Too much attention is paid to the antics of these so called "stars", I do not understand the publics infatuation with these people, they are no better than the rest of us.
