If you've seen these episodes, I've heard it's pretty acurate with the events of WWII. What other hollywood movies relate to WWII as good as this one?

Contrary to the foolish nonsense some have offered here, "Band of Brothers" is in fact based upon a very thoroughly researched history book (meaning it is factual in very great detail) by Stephen Ambrose, the late historian who contributed significantly to make "Saving Private Ryan" such a realistic film -- albeit of a fictionalized story. "Band of Brothers" is based upon the letters and journal entries of the men it portrays, often supplemented by in-depth interviews of the men themselves. It is not just "pretty accurate". It is accurate to the level of an academic text. It also has the virtue of not being BY any of the men portrayed (unlike the Audie Murphy story others have mentioned), so there has been no manipulation of the story to make its "main" character seem especially glorious or brave. (I intend no disparagement of the actual valor shown by Mr. Murphy, though I certainly dispute the accuracy of the depicition of his story by Hollywood.) You (and some respondents) are, therefore, comparing carefully researched history with made-up or adapted events, which is foolish to the extent that it confuses the two.

The accuracy of movies about WW2 varies immensely. Very famous and entertaining movies, like "Bridge on the River Kwai", are in fact historically garbage, badly misrepresenting the reality. Movies that were produced soon after the war tend to be extremely oversimplistic, and of course they depict a sanitized, gore-less warfare that has never existed anywhere at any time. You will find about 95% garbage against about 5% accurate, researched stories. The best history is in books, not in movies. If you want to learn, read; if you want entertainment, watch a movie.

Saving private Ryan, Schindler's List, The Pianist. I've seen in magazines many recomendations and it seems that all comes from war movies. I guess that the direction that a movie takes about the event it pretend to embrace, is the main point of the historical event you want to know. In my case I study religion I like movies of the World War 2. However I see Galipolli, that is a movie very dreamingly that shows the colonization of the Irish people in the south of North America. And sub-secuently you can imagine all the fiction that the western movies create around the ideology of the U.S. Me, as a mexican, I can tell you that for me, the history of Northamerica begins with the arrival of the people of Penn (William), and last but not least, the history of the Irish that began in New York.

Saving Private Ryan
Enemy at the Gates
Das Boot
Battleground
Go For Broke
Schindler's List
Cross of Iron

I liked Battle of the Bulge, if it weren't for the US Tanks painted as Panthers and tigers....that screwed up the whole movie. The Longest Day did not have the realistic feel of Private Ryan.

"The Longest Day" is historically accurate even if the all-star cast is a bit of a distraction. The RAF meterologist predicting a break in the weather, the paratroopers being scattered, the Rangers scaling a cliff, Rommel home to see the wife, Hitler sleeping in-it all happened

Well everyone has their favorites but obviously "Saving Private Ryan" has got to be a top one on anybody's list.

"Empire of the Sun" "Schindler's List" and the documentary "The last days" also are pretty good. (Most are linked to Spielberg but hey the man can make a good film).

Try imdb.com for more films (some older films are pretty cool: like Sahara, Bridge on the River Kwai and The Great Escape but theyre not necessarily very accurate).
