I think that this provocative painting is accomplishing what it set out to do -- make people think about how supermarkets and celebrity feed the public need to lift up pretty, affluent, and talented people.

Supermarkets do not only provide foodstuffs to buy, but they peddle celebrity with all the impulse items in the checkout stand. Celebrities create need for us to be prettier, thinner, and to be able to attain conspicuous wealth through consumerism. Celebrities are here to sell us things -- magazines, movies, television shows, clothes, records, make up, everything you can buy and those things that are intangible and unaccessible.

It is not the painting that is ridiculous, but a culture that is pre-occupied with celebrity information rather than important information about the economy, the environment, our personal finances and health, and the policies of those in power.
