Back in English 1101, a hundred years ago, I actually DID a paper on "How to Saddle Your Horse For the First Time." I got a "A" if that helps. The instructors note "I don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about, but I think if I ever needed to saddle a horse, I could follow your directions." Writing about something you know is the first step. Good luck. You could also do: how to bridle, how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble a bridle, how to groom a horse, how to clean a horse's hooves (or sheath, if you are brave hahahaha), how to clip, how to braid (if you do hunt seat).

I think racism is a good one because we need a solution to it and by that i mean young people of today need to make a stand and say i understand whats going on and it needs to stop because the hatred that is around for other cultures in disgusting and unjust and something needs to be done this is a choice that everyone needs to make not a priority to be right but a choice to make things fair in the world
If you wanted to do something more controversial you could do it on the question of should capital punishment be brought back in which is a highly sociable topic because it half half some people say it should and others don't so i think that might be a good one as well
i also think school shooting because it getting more common each time and something needs to be done like racism the younger generation need to take a stand and let everyone know that we understand what needs to be done.
good luck and all the best

Here are some ideas:
Schools continue to have DARE education even though it's proven not to work.
Schools continue to teach abstinence even though it's proven not to work.
A small percentage of women use abortion as birth control -- why? And how to get them to accept responsibility and use birth control.
We took mentally-ill people out of institutions in the 1970's, and now they're homeless. Is this an improvement?
There used to be orphanages and now they're gone, but we still have the problem of orphans. Is this situation better or worse.
The U.S. has more people in prison per capital than any other nation. We spend $30,000 per prisoner per year. Many are in prison because of drug laws and mandatory minimums. Is this an effective way of reducing crime? Why or why not?
Schools in bad neighborhoods look much worse than schools in good neighborhoods (poor heating and air conditioning, leaky roofs), even though the money comes from the same school district. What's the solution to this problem?
Hope that helps! Good luck!

The state of public schools. So many public schools are not giving decent educations to their students. You could research the origins of the public school and the flaws inherent in their system. For example, public schools are funded by the people in the neighborhood around them, so if a public school is in a really poor area, the students get a poor education, and can't get a good job, end up living in the same poor neighborhood and getting their children the same poor education, etc, in a viscious cycle that makes it incredibly hard for them to rise out of poverty. Poverty is another topic that you could cover.
Good luck on your paper!
