how many pairs for dial tone, and how many for dsl?

For phone & DSL
Pair 1 (blue for tip, blue/white for ring)

For data (Ethernet)
Pairs 2 & 3 (orange & green)

uhhhh....You'll need 2 different kinds of cable...1 "phone" cable that runs from your DSL filter (plugged into phone jack), and 1 CAT5 to go from your DSL modem to your computer...If you're planning on running multiple computers off your DSL modem, you will probably need a router...After that, you'll need a CAT5 cable for each extra computer hooked to the router.
