I recently had an abnormal pap result that showed Low Grade Squamous Intraepitheliel Lesions (LGSIL). My doctor told me to see an OB/GYN to have a colposcopy (NOT COLONoscopy -- Please don't answer if you don't know the difference!) and a biopsy. Anyway, I had a FULL STD screen, an HIV test AND an HPV DNA test, which ALL came back NEGATIVE. Is my doc being strictly cautious because she chose colposcopy and biopsy over just doing another pap in another 4 months or so? I don't mind -- better safe than sorry. I do also have really good insurance and a flexible boss and work schedule -- so this is not a problem. What I want to know is if I will have to miss work and how long I will have to go without intercourse. I would also like a professional opinion on why my doc told me to have a biopsy! The procedure is scheduled for this Wednesday, but I would like to know sooner if possible. Hence Yahoo Answers. Thanks all!

wow, i just had all of this done, my biopsy came back as precancerous so i had to have the cryotherapy treatment done. (actually i had it done this past wednesday). after my biopsy i was told to not have sex or use tampons for two weeks. as far as missing work, i would probably just say you'll miss the the day after due to stomach cramps. email me if you'd like any further information about the procedure or anything. and good luck

i had this done a few months ago.. i will tell u it's not comfortable at all.. u will have some spotting of the iodine (they use this during the proceedure) and bleeding. i had it done on a friday and was back to my normal pain free self by sunday afternoon.. u will get some mild cramping but nothing terrible.. my gyno told me to wait 2 -3 weeks before having sex again.. when i asked my doc why the biopsy and colposcopy and she said she likes to be cautious.. and would rather have her patients deal with a little pain rather than possibly letting things go bad in 4 months.. if it were me i would recommend taking thursday off from work just because ur not going to feel the greatest..

best of luck

I do know the difference between a colposcopy and a colonoscopy considering I have to go for a colposcopy as well....next Thursday....I dont think you will need to take any time off work but my dr advised that I may be a little sore for a day or two and there may be some bleeding afterwards. Good Luck

A Colposcopy can sometimes make you bleed but usually during the same day you had it done or the day after. Usually the doctor will tell you to wait at least a week before you have sex because they put little bandaid's on your cervix after doing the biopsy & it needs time to heal. Since you did have sex the day after you could have still gotten pregnant easily. I would deff. take a preg. test or call your doctor & let her know what happend.
