First you would have to consider the reason. Second, it has been done. New Orleans was under martial law for many months, so was GulfPort, Port Arthur. We the people would be smart enough to know the reason and obey. It is not unconstitutional, it is not a crime. It would, as in all past incidents, be rescinded when the emergency was over.

Marial law is old news here in the U.S. it was imposed in Birmingham, it was imposed in Watts, Chicago, lately in New Orleans. Nothing happened. Most people are law abiding and understanding, others get on here and bluster and blow. So far the soldiers have not shot many people.

extra-ordinary events would allow for martial law, but only for a short time. it would also be highly problematic for any president making such a claim, because it could easily lead to his impeachment, if it wasn't justifiably imposed, and limited in scope and time. a blanket declaration would be almost tortally impossible to enforce, and enact. civil authorities may even ignore it.

I think there would be a major rebellion of We The People against Them, the government.

Remember, the generals in Lincoln's army (North) continually put off attacking the South, because they didn't want to kill their own country men. I think that our military would have a hard time enforcing it due to the fact that if they shot anyone, it would be a citizen. It would be hard to enforce.
