I saw this thing come out of my mystery snail. I also saw it come out when it got above water. It looked like it was using it to breath! Is it a penis sheath or is it just part of its respitory system?

Mystery snails and appple snails are very similar i think they're anatomy are very similar. I even think they are the same thing!!! I think that its part of the resperatory sytem and all mystery snails should have that thing(siphon). So no it isnt a penis sheath i believe a penis sheath is inside the snail and shouldn't some out in public!Unless mating!

Why do you think it's called a mystery snail? Several species of snail are sold as mystery snail. All snails need access to the water surface to breathe air. You don't see the 'siphon' in smaller snails because it's too small.

Snails can be male, female, or hermaphrodites (any snail can mate with any other).

Mystery snails and apple snails are exactly the same in anatomy, mystery snails are just smaller versions.

That tube is how it breathes air from the surface while still staying underwater. It helps them hide from birds and sucj things.

He's using it to breathe out of....while they can absorb a limited amount of oxygen underwater through their skin, they need to go to the surface and breathe too.
