I been using Tiscali since August and they are good service until they put a restriction on the Internet usage because I been heavy usage on bandwidth. I haven't been downloading, mainly play game and MMORPG online but rarely and yet I appear to download quite a lot. Maybe because I left my modem on all day? Yes, I did but their rules said no heavy download between 6pm to 11pm so connnect through the modem been using quite of bandwidth, wow!

Since the restriction started, it has been running smooth without playing online games, now i have experience slow loading of web pages and web pages will not load on some days of the week.
Upon researching about tiscali - keywords: Hate, Tiscali - it appears tiscali have been neglecting customer and poor customer service so that people are fed up with them. Even a guy been conned of paying higher for low speed internet connection which Tiscali display it cheaply.

I know a friend who use Tiscali lot longer than me said he hasn't experience any problem at all. Maybe because tiscali dislike certain area and won't give me high speed?

Summarising it, they take, take, take than give, give, give. More likely they care about money, like some business and more likely don't care about customers. Of course I am babbling about their service which may seem irrelevant but it does have relevancy to email system.

Solutions?
Get another ISP.
Stick with them then ditch them, use another ISP.
Don't use tiscali email system, use other such as gmail, yahoo! mail and hotmail.
Check you have enter the information correctly on sending email.

Thats all I can offer.

I have just had a complete nightmare with Tiscrapi. After moving flat, they kept mucking me about when my internet would be connected. Everytime I rang up they said 'Tomorrow', and it never happened. Their call centre is appaling, you cannot get a straight answer either. After two months I gave up and BT installed two days later. I still have not received a refund for the two months I paid and did not have internet.

Take my advice, their who set up is flawed, cut your losses and go with someone else!

Does she use the web to check emails or does she use something like outlook. If its outlook you may have to check the pop settings it is using to download email. Although I think she would have noticed an error if this was the case.

I'd suggest telling her to get an email address that isn't tied to an ISP anyway. That way if she moves ISP then she doesn't lose the email address
