I am a teacher and I have a tattoo on my inside left ankle. I have never thought anything of it. I have never been questioned about my tattoo nor felt that it was wrong to have one. I teach elementary and most students, if they even notice, just think that it's cool and never give it a second thought.
Go ahead and get your tattoo, as long as it isn't done in bad taste (accompanied with profanity or pornographic images, which I can't picture if you only want a name)I don't see why anyone should have a problem with it.

I kind of worried about this, having gotten a tattoo on the front of my left ankle when I was 18--an IXOYE fish--but it's really not as scandalous as I had thought (hoped?) it would be.
In student teaching, I thought it was something I should brace my kids for, but my cooperating teacher said, "Why not let it be a surprise?" It's been more fun that way. I don't wear anything but slacks most of the time, so it does surprise them.
I think most teachers my age at my school have one anyway.
The name "Courtney" might give them extra giggles on a female ankle, but saying it's what you go by should cover that quickly enough.
Really the only catch is that when my kids get tattoos they want to show me--a couple of show-off guys have all but taken their shirts off.
I see nothing wrong with it as long as you keep it covered in an interview.

I have one on the outside of my left ankle......and I have been teaching for many years. I would rethink the Courtney though. How about something related to music?

I teach in the UK equivalent of High School Spanish. I have a large tattoo on my bicep which is visible when I wear short sleeves. My students have no problems and my bosses have no problems (as far as I know... I've been at the school over a year and nobody has asked me to cover it).

Depends on where you teach. If you have a job in the North at a public school with a strong union, then go for it. If you're teaching at a private school in the South, you can start job shopping if you get inked.

yep, no big deal.
tats aren't as taboo as they used to be.
the week before i started at my new school we had a field day, I went to help and a lot of my students saw that i had a tattoo on my leg.
in class they asked to see it, since it's about 3 inches above my ankle i showed them.
they thought it was cool and we have moved on, it's really no big deal.

depends on the nature of the tattoo, butterfly would be nice and I am sure teen agers would enjoy it
on the other, hand, if you are concerned about appearances, wear sox and display yur tattoo in your real life
but then the question becomes, what would you have on your left foot/ankle

Of course! If anything it makes you more approachable to students.I've had several teachers with tattoos.A rose on the calf and a star on the shoulder blade. Each of them where fine teachers.

Basically, the rule of thumb with tattoos and teaching is put it someplace where it's not going to be seen, so if you're wearing socks and slacks or leggings/dark tights with skirts, go for it.

My sister work in the office at the elementry school here and she once told me that tatoos had to be covered while at work. I don't know the rules at your school. Ask someone in the office. Someone would have to be looking really hard to see a tatoo there.
