Why do some of the duplex receptacles in my house get a greenish color on the outside? I don't get it. You wipe them clean and 2 weeks later there is more green. We have noticed this in one bathroom and one kitchen receptacle. The bathroom one is a GFI device. Neither one of them are used very much.

1st poster is correct. Copper connectors in the receptacle, together with moisture, will turn green. (statue of liberty effect)
Keep air moving in the bathroom.

It's odd but it has nothing to do with the actual wiring. It's more than likley something in the air.
