When I had chinchillas I was advised to roast the branches in the oven first to make sure all the 'critters' are dead and that it is clean!! It didn't matter whether the bark was on or off. They love it though!!

As long as its been processed properly they can have the everything. Mine spend forever chewing off he bark first then go for the wood.
