If your baby is being bothered by it you may want to place a piece of copper in the crib (not where the kid can touch it though! Perhaps under the crib). Traditionally this was mostly used to guard against things like changelings, witches and such.
If you're religious see if you can get some holy water from your church and sprinkle it in the corners of your house. (Be careful though as the holy water from most churches carries a TON of bacteria).
You can also sprinkle a little bit of sea salt in the corners of the room and across the door openings. A lot of European cultures salt as a cleansing/purifying/protecting agent.
As for the house itself you may want to "smudge" it. Take a stick of traditional incense and walk through your home with it. Make sure to get a little of the smoke in the corners of each room.
Also, as another poster has mentioned simply telling the spirit and having the intention that the ghost leaves your home may be enough.
It might also not be anything dangerous or detrimental. It could be something as simple as a deceased relative coming to check up on you.
Cheers,

Can you feel the presence yourself?
If so, face it, and talk to it.
Try to communicate - if yousense the presence, you should also be able to sense whether it is a good or an evil spirit.
If it seels like it does not intend any harm, try asking what it wants, and how you can help.
If you sense evil or discomfort, tell it to leave you and your baby alone! Tell the spirit to leave your presence
As for the "smudging" mentioned in an earlier answer, try to use sage instead of "regular insence".
When I was younger, every time i went outside in the dark, there was an indian who followed me. He was two-dimentional, and took the form of a silhouette. I never actually SAW him, but I felt his presence, and in my mind's eye I saw the form. If I would start to run, he would speed up as well - he was always at the exact same distance behind me, and no matter which town or country we moved to - he was always there.
In my early 20's, a friend of mine who was a practicing witch, told me that next time I knew he was there, I should turn and face him, instead of running. I did - and he vanished, and has not been back since.
Blessed be.

Assuming that it is not a natural event, most ghosts are easy to get rid of. Literally just ask them to leave. That is assuming it is a human spirit. Many spirits, human and otherwise, get attached to places and things. Move into an old house? Buy an antique with unknown history? Play with a Ouija board or seance? I do not know your situation but there are investigators out there that can help you. go to theshadowlands.net, they have a listing of reputable investigators.

Get a scientist or skeptic to investigate it. Paranormal phenomena always have a habit of going away whenever they are tested under rigorous conditions.

Well, IF there is any such thing, you have to TELL it to leave. They are invading YOUR world where they don't really belong anymore. If you order them to leave they have to, or if they are friendly, help them find their way.
