It is just an expression for taking information off of a cd by copying it to your computer.

It always means you are transferring data to your PC from the CD. It usually also means you are compressing the signal into something managable (MP3, etc). The files on the CD are horribly large as .wav files.

it means that you pull the songs off of cds as digital files (e.g. mp3, wav, flac, etc.). as files, you can send them as email attachments, put them on mp3 players, keep them on your hard drive, etc.
