Or did the vengeful goons who executed him take care of that all by themselves.

He has been made into a martyr by the muslim world by the timing of the execution, The day of his execution was the day when muslims were celebrating the festival of sacrifice where prophet Abraham sacrificed his son . the two coincided and the muslims have taken saddam to be a martyr.

Maybe I'm naive, but I just don't see the risk of Saddam becoming a martyr as Germany and Egypt have suggested.

To become a martyr, you have to stand for something. Saddam did not. There is no "idea" behind Saddam to carry on now that he's gone. Even though I think we were wrong in killing him (I don't think Capital Punishment is American, Christian, or ethical), I don't think even his supporters are zealous enough about him to make him their martyr. The American and Iraqis way of executing Saddam may cause the violence to increase in Iraq, but it has more to do with our mistakes, not his righteousness. They've got enough reasons to fight, they don't need to add a martyr as another cause.

No, the Iraqi government and the guys who actually carried out the execution did that themselves. I didn't see where our media made the man into a martyr, in fact it made it clear what a monster Saddam was.

Vengeful Goons ? I think not . An eye for an eye . He got off easy . They should have chopped his head off with a rusted dull Sabre . Like the Americans were killed , slowly and painfully .. Martyr NO , Madman YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He became not made right into a martyr. He died like a coward and the international is greater now that a genocidal dictator became dropped at justice Hell, the UN exceeded over Saddam, they exceeded over Rwanda, they exceeded over Bosnia, they exceeded over Herzegovina, and that they are presently ignoring Darfur. the US has carried out good issues in turning this mad guy over to the Iraqis so as that they might convey him to justice
