I have had my period for 2 years but have always used pads. I just recently started using tampons and for some reason whenever I put one in, it always feels like it's leaking. I can feel my tampon and it's very uncomfortable. But there's no way it actually is leaking because I'll only have it in for 30 minutes or so. One of my friends said I may not have it in far enough, so i tried pushing it in farther. It still happens, so should I continue to put it in farther? I'm sick of pads and hate them. And I really want to learn how to use tampons... HELP!

Make sure you have it in all of the way and you will feel the tampom until you get use to it. I hated them at first now I never feel them. Start with a small size then go to regular. They are worth it.

For your first time, you may want to try using a tampon when your menstrual flow is heavy; this should allow the tampon to glide in more easily. Choose the smallest size tampon for the first time. By following these simple guidelines, and those that come with your package of tampons, your first experience with tampons should be easy.
Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Some women prefer to place one leg on the toilet seat or tub, while others prefer to squat down. After you find a position that is most comfortable for you, hold the tampon with the fingers that you write with. Hold the middle of the tampon, at the spot where the smaller, inner tube inserts into the larger, outer tube. Make sure the string is visible and pointing away from your body.

With your other hand, open the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening) and position the tampon in the vaginal opening.

Gently push the tampon into the opening, aiming for the small of your back. Stop when your fingers touch your body and the applicator, or outer tube, is completely inside the vagina.

Once the applicator or outer tube is inside of you, use your index finger to push the inner tube (the tube where the removal string is connected) through the outer tube.

Once the inner tube is all the way in, use your thumb and middle finger to remove the applicator or outer tube. Make sure that the string hangs outside of the vaginal opening. Later, when you are ready to remove the tampon, hold the string and gently pull it downward until the entire tampon is out.
If the tampon is inserted correctly, you should not feel it. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, you may have inserted the tampon incorrectly or the tampon may not be placed far enough into the vagina. If this happens, just remove the tampon and start again with a new tampon. Remember that practice makes perfect. If you don't get it on the first try, your second try will most likely be successful. Instead of getting frustrated and giving up, relax and try again!

I was always told that if you can feel the tampon then it is not in correctly. Make sure you follow the directions on the box and sit in a position they suggest while inserting the tampon. Stick it in as far as you can if you think it is not in far enough. Don't worry it wont get lost. Good luck.

I dont know what to tell you, I have the same problems....I just gave up on using tampons because it's way too uncomfortable. You might just have the wrong size tampon,if its leaking you might want a bigger size.

maybe you're using the wrong size tampon. check the box. also, it takes practice to get it in far enough. try a different brand. don't use the cardboard applicators, they are too dry and hard to get in all the way. you could also use a tampon and a thin pad if you're afraid of leakage. they are more comfortable.

It does sound like it isn't in all the way, but sometimes this happens if your not very wet there. Keep on using them, because you'll get used to it. I hated pads and never used them either.

If you feel it you might not have it high enough inside you. You shouldn't be able to feel it at all. Don't worry it wont get lost inside you, but it's possible for it to get stuck up there. If this happens see your doctor and they will be able to get it out. You might want to leave it in longer than 30 minutes. You can leave it inside for up to eight hours. It just takes a lot of practice.

Thats probably normal since you just started using them. I wouldnt keep going further though, that could cause problems. You'll get use to them :)

Try the OB brand that does not have an applicator and see if that helps.

That's because it's unnatural. You're vagina isn't meant to have a cotton stick inside. That can cause really nasty infections. You should always use pads. Also, when you use tampons, they tend to "open you up more", causing sex to be less pleasurable for the male partner (If you're straight).
