In real life?? Maybe your seriousness is so far in left field--so to speak--that it does not seem logical to others. The younger generation can seem out in left field to the older generation--like myself. lol
Maybe your age. Maybe you are not considered an adult or adult like to those around you. Maybe they do not consider you old enough to have your own opinions. This can happen--parents and family do not realize that you have matured--physically as well as mentally.
If you are considered a "care free" guy and suddenly come up with a very serious statement or thought--it is taken out of context.

Because you may not look the serious type
you have never shown to be or act serious
you have never given a serious answer
you clown around/joke all the time

because some people are unable to portray themselves has having a serious side...so others are unable to take them seriously.
