in no particular order:
1) Spurs - they're an obvious pick as they've gone deep into the playoffs every year since duncan came into the league.
2) Mavericks - They're in opinion the most talented team in the league and they have a great coach in avery johnson and superstar in dirk.
3) Lakers - I think they can go really deep in the playoffs this year. Kobe is really buying into Phil Jackson's "share the ball" concept. Just last night he only scored 9 points and yet was seen joking around because his team had blown out the nuggets.
4) Heats - They're still the champions unless someone dethrones them. Plus shaq is coming back in time for the game against the lakers next week. With shaq and wade, they still have the best duo in the game. Those two alone can keep them in games against anyone.
5) Suns - They're just plain good. Steve Nash is on his way to a third consecutive MVP. Amare is back to playing at the level he was playing a couple years ago. Then they have the matrix shawn marion. This team can run anyone out of the building. They're my pick to win the western conference this year.
These 5 teams were obvious picks. Maybe you could take the lakers out and put in the pistons but the other four teams are definitely by far the class of the nba.

1. Dallas Mavericks - 2 win streaks of 12 + this team is for real
2. Phoenix Suns- they have won most of their games in December (one of their few losses to the hot Dallas Mavericks)
3. Washington Wizards aka Gilbert Arenas- he is playing out of his mind crazy
4. Houston Rockets- without Yao Ming, TMac steps it up and they have won 5 straight
5. LA Lakers- Kobe is playing really well right now
NOT HOT TEAM- Miami Heat- Pat Riley takes a leave of absense, they have players suspended for not meeting a team goal, they have Shaq and Wade out hurt- what else could go wrong?
