Windows XP should find your modem and load the driver for it. If not, get the brand and model of your modem and go online to DriverGuide.com and search for an XP driver. You will find your modem in System Hardware. I don't remember how to find it in Win98, as I've had XP too long, but click on Start, Settings, Control Panel and System. Either check Hardware or System Devices and Hardware, then look for the modem. It will at least give you the brand name.

Oh God, I would never do an upgrade. It is best to do a clean install. But make a backup of your system. I did an upgrade to my system when XP first came out and lost all my pictures of my baby's first year of life. How angry I was. Your choice though. The others are right about the modem you might have to update the driver or reinstall the software for it. Good Luck!

Upgraders BEWARE!
