I've been using the depo prvera shot on and off for about 4 years and I am wondering if there is a time limit. Meaning if I use it for too long will it eventually start to make it harder and harder to pregnant down the road when I am ready?

Yes taking the depo shot has been known to cause infertility.
You should stop taking after a year for about 6 months.
The longer you are on it the hard it becomes to conceive.

In Canada, the guideline is not more then 5 years. If you are under 25 you should not have it more then 3 because of bone density loss. The bigger concern here is on and off. That can really mess you up!

Go have a good long serious chat with your gyno.

I did depo for 4 years straight and got pregnant almost a year to the day after stopping. My period went back to normal 3 months after stopping. So its not always bad.

Yes, if you do it too long your period may never come back and you may never have children. BUT to long for you and to long for me at two totally different things.

usually forms of birth control are termed reversible like the patch shot and pill. when u come off u should be able to get pregnant still. the shot i believe there is a window period after ur last shot and the time u get pregnant not sure what it is but once theres no birth control anything can happen

Its the same as any birth control, it doesn't matter how long you use it and cut it off.... just after your not using it anymore, it might take your body a couple months to get it out of your system and go back to normal.

It did for my girlfriend. She only used it once after she gave birth to her first child and it took her 3 years to get pregnant again.
