I live in NJ and it is 72 degrees in January. Last year I was in a jacket bundled up with the heat on. What is happening?

I answered the a question like this a couple of times so I'll give you the same answer:

This is the effect of global warming which is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as gas and coal and the clearing of trees. Clearing trees increases carbon dioxide levels and scientists believe carbon dioxide levels will double before 2050 to 750 parts per million.

And no, strictly it shouldn't happen but there are too many pollutants in this world. Some people however believe this is a natural process for us to get crazy weather which will eventually turn back to normal.

In fact, January 2006 was the hottest January on record in Toronto. I however believe this is nothing to freak about and some people *cough* tree-huggers *cough* are too concerned over this issue. One thing is certain however, don't expect too many white Christmases from now on.

Just as I thought, your question opened up the flood gate to all the 'global warming' cr*p!
I an remember moving house one spring (a long time ago) and it was snowing on the day we moved! Was that down to 'global colding' do you think? I prefer to believe any answer you got which doesn't involve global warming, plus you should get your heating checked out if you need a jacket on at the same time as your heating!.

Same here in the UK....13C and gets doewn to about 10C (50F) at night. Been like this all "winter"

The warmest, wettest winter, I can recall.

The weather has definitely changed. We will not get any snow this winter and we have onlyhad about 5 frosty nights....Unbelievable. When I was a child every winter we got at least a few weeks of snow.

I wonder what it wil llike in another 30 years time? 25C+ on Christmas day? It's not good.

so ya see how the seasons are different but the same

its winter everyware but the temp is fluxuating

The Earth is recalibrating itself: Last year, we had a cold winter, and it's balancing itself out now. In January, it feels like the middle of April."

El Nino is very active this year.

Should make for an interesting spring, but I hear that because of El Nino, we had a mild hurricane season this, and can expect another mild one next season. . .
