How do i fix this? it hasn't ever happened before.

First restart your computer. If that doesn't work try a diffrent USB port, if you're using one on the front use one on the back or the other way around.
If that doesn't work post back. I'll try to help.
If it doesn't work, did you update anything, install a new program, did anything diffrent?

Make sure that your camera is on USB mode if it has one and that you connect it while the camera is on. Also make sure that your computer has the correct driver and if it's been running for a good while without being turned off, restart your pc/mac.

Restart the computer if that doesn't work call tech support you may have to download an update or something.

restart the computer, sometimes the usb conections just get disabled.
