That's the scam Republicans have been running since the first world war.

Republicans lust for 2 things: money and control of the people.

They create a group to fear and hate, and then in order to protect you, they take away everyone's freedoms.

Some idiots don't mind saying it's worth it to be safe. They've given up on America.

Other idiots don't mind saying they have nothing to hide. First, you don't know everything about the people you associate with, and you may be associating with a person of interest to the govt. That means YOU are to be investigated. And finally, you never know what some Republican will dream up as a crime.
It could be brown shoes some day. Or reading a certain book. Or belonging to the wrong church.

Every dictator in history has been a conservitive. The only difference is how they handle money.

Since about ohhhhh .... day one.

Revolutionary war our government hired a mob to go around killing and burning down the houses of any not with the cause.

Civil war Lincoln imprisoned congressmen who disagreed with the war without trial.

WWII, look at the German and Japanese Americans at the time. Any protest during a declared war is also considered treason in case you have ever wondered why there were no protest during that war, we threw the protestors in prison.

Yet oddly enough our freedoms remained after each conflict and the measures we took were repealed. What is happening now is nothing new and will happen again in the future.

But our freedoms ARE our civil liberties, so it is an oxymoron. But the government gets away with it by pretending like it will only be temporary (like the start of income taxation to fund the first World War) but then they never go away. Eventually, generations are born that never had that liberty, and soon no one even cares because it was something they never had.

have you ever read the 4th amendment, or understood it. Since you haven't the part of the Constitution that deals with it is below:

The question of the scope of the President's constitutional powers, if any, remains judicially unsettled.156 Congress has acted, however, providing for a special court to hear requests for warrants for electronic surveillance in foreign intelligence situations, and permitting the President to authorize warrantless surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information provided that the communications to be monitored are exclusively between or among foreign powers and there is no substantial likelihood any ''United States person'' will be overheard.157

It is not acceptable. The right-wing politicians and some right wing intellectuals have tried to justify it as part of the Global War on Terror. Their reasoning is flawed-the GWOT is not a declared war and the executive is not entitled to their power grab. In addition, there is no proof that these infringements on our rights have done anything to protect our freedoms. They get away with it because we let them.

Well since no freedoms have been lost and freedom is intact, the abolishment is not necessary, but just another scare tactic.
