What are one advantage and one disadvantage of asexual reproduction compared with sexual reproduction?

sexual reproduction creates genetic variation...which is good in an unstable environment (it increases the likelihood that at least one offspring will survive the changed world).

asexual reproduction...don't need a partner and you pass on 100% of your genetic legacy instead of just 50%. Good in a stable environment (if you were successful in your environment, and the environment doesn't change, chances are that your clones will fare pretty well also).

An advantage for this is that the organism is capable of reproduction in the absences of other organisms of the same species. A disadvantage of this is that the offspring will be genetically identical therefore share the same gene and the same vulnerabilities to the same diseases.

hope this helps

Asexual reproduction provides shelter from genetic mutation, since its an exact copy of what the cell was.

Asexual also lacks genetic diversity, so if there was something that could kill ONE of them, it could kill the whole lot.

Sexual reproduction is subject to mutations

Sexual reproduction however has genetic diversity, that can prevent the whole lot from dying from one source, and give it a fighting chance against natural selection

advantage: no energy needed to find a partner to reproduce. very easy to reproduce quickly.

disadvantage: no genetic diversity. if something kills an organism then the whole species could be wiped out
