The top radiator hose on my old 525 split and it lost a lot of water (but didn't overheat ) when the steam had died down I replaced the hose and refilled the radiator but a plastic object popped up into the rad filler neck. It is an off white plastic tube about 2" long and about 3/4" diam the walls are 1/8" thick and has a top which comes off if twisted out of two grooves and there is a sealing ring between the top and the body. Everything appears to work OK (heater gets hot car doesn't overheat and all the warning lights are normal. Anybody got any ideas what this might be or where it's come from?

might be an old part of the cap, if you have an e34. some were recalled over a decade ago so they can get new radiator caps, but its hard to tell without looking.

your lucky all you needed was a hose, we just put in a whole new radiator about 2 hours ago.
