What is this 'sun' and 'moon' that you speak of? I'm still confused, can't someone put it into simpler terms for me.

during the day the sun is shining on the part of the earth where you are. then as the earth rotates on its axis, the part where you are is no longer facing the sun (the other part of the world is.)
the diff between day and night is the position of the sun in relation to your position on the earth. use an apple or orange as the earth and something else, like a basketball as the sun. hold the sun still and spin the orange like a top. if you were an ant one place on the orange, sometimes you would be able to see the basketball, other times not. that's night and day.

If you are BLIND and cannot see you will obviously need another reference other than light and dark....

When it is day time (and it is not raining) you could detect the presence of day light shining on you by the warmth it generates on your skin. This warmth is created by light from the SUN striking your skin, the light energy absorbed by your skin will raise its temperature....

The heating effect from this "light" would also tend to be directional, only warming a portion of your body at any given time. If you could stand long enough you would find that the direction of this light warmth would slowly move in one direction. The warmth would appear to disappear for 12hours. We call this absence of light night. At the end of this night the warmth would again reappear from an opposite direction from where it disappeared. This return of the warmth marks the beginning of a new period which we call Day.

Simplest definition:
day = period when the sun is above the horizon
night = period when the sun is below the horizon

next level
day = period of rotation in relation to the sun
used to be the basis for the definition of time: on average, 24 hours between each meridian passage of the sun from a fixed location. Each hour divided in 60 parts called "minutes", each minute is divided in 60 parts called "seconds" (because it was the "second" division of the hour).

because the earth is rotating, the sun ends up in a different area, causing a difference in the light we recieve (sunrise- the earth has rotated towards the sun) sundown- the earth is rotating away from the sun, causing you to see the moon.
