DSL uses phone line while High Speed internet uses cable. DSL's speed depends on the distance from in which the user is from the ISP location. High Speed internet's speed is more affected by the number of users that is currently using the same service in your area. I recommend High Speed internet such as Brighthouse or Comcast, unless lots of people use that service in your area. If you're strapped for cash, then try DSL. DSL is in the 15-20 dollars, while cable costs around 30 dollars.

Good question.
Here is my understanding of DSL/High Speed Internet.
#1/ Go to www.bandwidthplace.com(URL) and read their
offerings on their web pages..
#2/They have a speed test mechanism in place to test
your personal data streaming speed, mine is 2.5 megabits
per second (MBPS) they call it communications speed,
thats the download speed, upload is considerably slower usually
764 MBPS is pretty much average.
Your rate of memory, should be anywhere in the 1-3 second range, if you have a fast CPU microprocessor (mine is 3.0 GIG)
lots of memory storage in RAM (mine is 1 GIG) with a 200 GIG
hard drive, but I power lots of text and graphics.
Comcast now offers high speed Internet data streaming up
to 6.0 MBPS, but you will have to pay close to $100.00 per month
for that fast of Internet service, from your ISP.
I'm with SBC/YAHOO/DSL and I pay $31.95 per month.
These days all of the ISP carriers are hawking that their telephony
systems are far superior to DSL, but that is advertising hype,
don't believe it, they are trying to drum up more business, and
in the process, they have to bad mouth their competition.
Now about High Speed (3G) I'm not familiar with that term,
ask Google or some other search engine to see if they can provide you with an accurate answer, I use Webcrawler
occasionally, Alta Vista, Jeeves, Ask.com, there are others.
Thats my message, good luck

DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line, and is available through your wireline phone company. It has a maximum throughput speed of ~3MB/sec. This solution is available for a relatively cheap price, at ~$20/month.
3G technology involves the use of the internet through a cellular phone or a 3G data card, which connects to the cellular network. This solution is traditionally used for mobile computing professionals, who need access to the internet wirelessly. Average speeds for this range from 400-700kbps, with bursts of up to 1MB.
If you're setting this up for the home/home office, DSL is the only option, as 3G data cards aren't meant to be shared across a network.
