A dream. A day.
A night. A life.
Strange places, sounds
in the pouring rain.
Disorentation goes and comes.
I wonder if I've gone insane.
New places, faces
I know I've never seen.
I navigate so easily
through streets I've never been.
How did I get here?
It seems so natural.
Still I know I belong
somewhere else, I think.
It's a world just
slightly out of kilter,
like I came in between notes
instead of on the beat.
Awake now again, alert
and in the real world.
But I'll be back there tonight
or the next or the one after that,
and I'll wonder always
if maybe, somehow, somewhere,
that world is as real
as this one.
I've always liked that poem.
