The simple answer is pollution. What we dump is highly pollutant to the Environment, if we then burn it those burnt particles that escape will further pollute the environment. Because they are no longer trapped in the plastic milk jug or car battery or whatever. They will then make the area around the volcano a very dirty and dangerous place. This will then raise the price of dumping. Modern day landfills are not just fields you start dumping stuff in. They are designed from the very beginning to not let stuff leach into the ground underneath the landfill and to capture, and often recycle, the gas escaping from the deterioating stuff. When they are full they are capped, with about 20 feet of clay, and left alone for several years and and then only playgrounds etc can be built on top so as to not disturb the actual landfill material.

It sounds like a nice idea at first glance. Unfortunately, or fortunately, volcanoes are not evenly distributed around the earth's surface. Most are located around the 'Ring of Fire'. Also, most volcanoes have inherent dangers. Who wants to set up dumping facilities and to generally be in the neighbourhood of an erupting volcanoe?
