Read about the naming laws in your particular state, but I believe you can give your child any name you want for a last name, even one not belonging to either parent.

I was, because she was not married. Also my husband will have six daughters altogether by march, and i told him that maybe one day when our kids have a baby they will have a boy and give him her maiden name to keep the name going since he didn't, even if she was married.

Yes. If she choses to keep her last name, isn't married or writes her maiden name on your birth certificate.

Yes, you can...

is dad around??...if he's not. Maybe she just didn't want to give you his last name.

But then again-- I have my dad's last name and my mom's last name...

BEST OF LUCK!
