Just to let you know, alot of people have the history of Cort and Tanglewood mixed up. Cort Guitars were the original brand and agreed to let Tanglewood make exact copies of their guitars under the Tanglewood name.

Id also like to say that Cort manufacture Fender, Ibanez, Epiphone, Schecter and many other different brands. And by the way, they dont just manufacture the Squier line for Fender!

Back in the 70s, Cort was branded as Cortez to try and eliminate some of the negative press that Asian guitars were getting at the time. Cort has been made since 1960, and they make ALL of their own stuff including pickups, circuit boards, and even fretwire. They sell hardware under the Mightymite name.

Your info is slightly goofy. Cort is a manufacturer of guitars in Korea and Indonesia and do make guitars for others (Schecter is made by Samick). Tanglewood is a brand name distributed by Musicquip Inc. and is made in China, but have only been available since about 1990.

Not too many Asian companies place design protection on their guitars, as a result you'll see lots of differnt brand names on what look to be identical instruments. I don't think it is likely that Cort gave "permission" to Tanglewood. Rather, the designs of Tanglewood are just a common copy.

Other than being made on or near the same continent, Cort and Tanglewood are unaffiliated.

Unless one of the higher end or intermediate level Ibanez acoustics it will be built in China, if a higher end Ibanez acoustic then it will be built in Korea, at the Cort factory, if a top of the line professional Ibanez acoustic it will be built in Japan at the Ibanez factory, if it has a Cort logo on the headstock it just means they put that one on rather than a Ibanez, Epiphone, Guild, Fender, Washburn or whatever, Cort makes guitars for everybody, its there main business, there own name brand is just a bonus and makes nowhere near the money for them as making guitars for other clients, unless buying a non Asian made guitar don't let the name on the headstock influence you, chances are they were made at the same factory in a lot of cases, play them and decide that way,

I love Corts they are always great! My first guitar was an older Cort stratocaster copy from 1994 they don't make them anymore and there was no model name but I loved it! just as good as a higher end Squier! Every Cort I've played has sounded and played great defenitely would recommend them considering their lower price!

Well, they're probably decent, with all the experience there, but I frankly looked them up only after your question and found only one model that might be OK for me, and it's already done by others, and better (24 frets, Floyd Rose or better trem, H-S-H or better yet H-H-H). Ibanez has quite a few upper end models like that (and I have one) and so does Carvin (from them, I have such a 7-string). But they gotta be good if they have Larry Coryel on board (still, cf. Ibanez and Vai, Satriani, Benson and Metheny).
So, decent guitars, but no big deal. If their prices are good, kudos. What's it to you that you preach about it so fervently?

I SAY, Buy ESP!!!!
I've heard the Cort name, but I couldn't tell you any reports or how they play or stuff like that.
I DO however know that ESP, Jackson and Dean are cool playing and looking guitars.
