sore throat is the major sign for getting cold ..and you can beat it by supplementing vitamin C and have very fresh and healthy food so your body puts all its energy to fight the cold instead trying to digest the heavy toxic food. Also have lots of herbal tea and water. Other symptoms are feeling cold, having heavy head, feeling without power etc.

Best time to treat is soon as you get some symtoms. Runny nose, stopped up sinuses, sneezing, sometimes sore throat. if you want to try it, do some Airborne as it is a very good remedy and was invented by a teacher. Best of all, it works. And tastes good to boot. other things is do some good chicken soup but not the salty stuff from a can. Good recipe is to take a quart or so of chicken stock, heat to a boil and add in some tortalini. Let boil for a few minutes till it looks nice a fluffy like clouds floating and when done put in a bowl, add some baby spinach leaves to wilt them, top with some Romano Regiano cheese and you have a great light remedy.

The best remedy is to prevent the cold from taking off once you feel it coming on. What you want to do is take the following supplements once or twice daily: Echinacea, zinc, Vit. C (Ester C is best absorbed). Make sure you use high-quality supplements, not cheap retail-type brands. It's important that you begin this regimen *before* you develop a full-blown cold. I've used this technique and very rarely ever develop a cold. Once you ward off the cold, you can stop the supplements, especially the echinacea.

The best way to reduce the discomfort of sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetominofen or Ibuprofen).
Warm beverages and soups are also soothing to the throat.
Gargling with warm salt water is effective at soothing and also for helping to reduce the viral infection. Good oral hygiene when you are sick is also good -- brushing your teeth and using antiseptic mouthwash (like Listerine brand) are helpful to reduce the level of viruses in your mouth.
There are also tons of products such as throat lozenges and throat sprays that are soothing. For lozenges, I have found that the most effective active ingredient is:
hexylresorcinol
But there are not very many products that have it. Instead you will probably be able to find products containing other active ingredients.
The brand Cepacol is generally the most effective lozenges available (in the USA). Here is their website:

Flurest.... the ingredients are paracetamol, Caffiene, Pseudoepedrine.... This tablet has a missed effect such as Headache = paracetamol
Caffiene = General stimulator and it has a stringent effect.
Pseudoephedrine is for the runny nose and the throat congestion>

The thing that absolutely works for me is that airborne stuff, take as soon as you sense yourself getting queezy, than also drink lots of fresh OJ and lemon juice together. My husband and daughter were sick three times this fall and every time I would do this and not once get sick, and trust me , it seemed on the news this whole town was sick.
Good luck, hope you get better soon
