President Truman made the decision (along with others in his administration) that if the war continued many thousands of American soldiers, and others would die. In order to bring the war to a close, the decision was made to first warn Japan about the destructive power of the bomb. After Japan failed to heed the warning, the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. A second bomb was dropped a few days later on Nagasaki. Over 100,000 people died in the Hiroshima blast alone. Japan finally surrendered soon after the second bomb was dropped. Please take the time and AT LEAST pick up an encyclopedia or small book about this very important era in American, and international history.
