Firstly, AMD doesn't make notebooks. They make the processors that are used in notebooks. Secondly, NO, they are not cheaply made. As a matter of fact, many people, particularly gamers, like AMD over Intel. They are "less expensive" because AMD is number two, so they try harder. You can trust AMD.

AMD only makes the processor and they are cheaper than Intel. The quality of the notebook depend on the manufacturer. If you need a cheap notebook get one with an AMD processor.

I have had a Gateway notebook with an AMD chip for 6 months and I am very happy with it. No problems so far and runs Microsoft Flight Simulator at 15 frames per second.

AMD makes CPUs not notebooks. the notebooks that have AMD CPUs are cheaper because the AMD CPUs are cheaper but just as good as intel CPUs. however, they do have a reporting error. your cpu may be running at 2ghz and it might say 2.1ghz or any thing around that.
AMD CPUs are cheaper because of two reasons, they use cheaper materials so rely on there archtecture and they are second to intel.

AMD makes a better processor than Intel for a lower price. I have used AMDs for years. I have all mine overclocked and they run with 0 problems. I wont buy/build a computer with an Intel chip.

They are better than Intel (except Core 2 Duo, don't confuse this with Core Duo). They are cheaper because AMD doesn't overcharge as much as Intel does. It is like the principle of Apple vs. other manufacturers. Apples are much more expensive but by no means better. Five of my systems are AMD except for two, one I got for free, the other is a Core 2 Duo.

I find that all notebooks are rather flimsy when I run over them with my 2-ton bulldozer. However, aside from that, AMD holds up pretty well, surprisingly.

They are cheaper because AMD doesn't gouge with their CPU prices like Intel does, and they are better to boot.
