can anyone tell me about the characteristic and properties of buckyt balls.

The name came from R. Buckminster Fuller, the promoter of the geodesic dome and hemispheres. See the first site below for typical structures.

Similar in chemistry and physical properties are nano tubes (site 2). Dr. Richard E. Smalley, one of researchers at Rice University who developed the Bucky Balls in the mid 1980's, has an excellent site (3&4).

Fullerenes have odd magnetic properties as solids and are useful in forming superconductors.

You might be interested in finding a copy of Optical and Electronic Properties of Fullerenes and Fullerene-Based Materials (Hardcover) by Joseph Shinar (Editor). Amazon.com has it listed, but perhaps you could find a copy in a library.
