Carrie is a lightweight book that does nothing to expound or expand on the human condition, so I doubt it will be a favorite. The mother/daughter relationship is a little overdone. If you want to delve into more serious topics via King, try The Stand or Shawshank Redemption. The first is about the good and evil in mankind and what must be done to conquer evil. Shawshank is about the transformative power of hope, which we all need to some degree. Read all of them and make your own decision.

Yes it is a great book. The best of Mr King's works is The Stand though which is my favorite.

I enjoyed both the book & the movie. If you have ever felt alienated, embarrassed, different, or been made fun of or bullied you will love this book. King is a great writer ... don't let anyone tell you different.

One of my favorite King books is "The Talisman".
Now that is a good read!!
"The Shining" is better than "Carrie" in my opinion.

You should read it for yourself, no one can tell you what one of your favorite books will be. I can tell you that I didn't like it, because I felt I couldn't relate deeply to any of the characters, but you might. Its not a piece that I would consider the best example of writing since Stephen King writes horror big macs (not exclusively, but this fits safely into that category), and if that is what you like, you should read it. If you like horror you should look into L. Ron Hubbard's "Fear".

No way to know if it will be a favorite of yours, but I enjoyed it. One of King's early greats. It's a fun read.
