There are virtually 100s of muscle creams on the market in this day and age. But consider that muscle creams only penetrate 1/8 of an inch into the skin. The do not reach the actual muscle. What they do is increase superficial blood flow to the area, which helps in the healing process to some degree. You should consider how baths and showers to help ease sore muscle pain or maybe even over the counter anti-inflamatories...though beware that taking too many of these for long periods of time can increase your chances of an ulcer.

Just go to the section of the store that carries Bengay. Right next to that product you will find alternatives.
What's your motivation for switching? Price...there are less expensive generics. Smell? there are unscented formulas.

The best stuff I have found is called "Sombra." You can get it at spas or online. It has an odor (menthol) but it fades much faster than Ben-Gay type products. And it works really fast.
You also might want to try the patches that are on drugstore shelves.

That stuff is SO OVERRATED!
did it ever work for you? I suffered extreme pain in my leggs and feet and NONE of the cream ointments ever worked.
I honestly believe i was suffering symptoms of being drugged and poisoned. i think also that the tendon in my foot became so hard that it ripped at one point

The only thing that ever worked for me, sparingly, was advil. Tylenol worked to some degree and aspirin hardly ever worked.
