I've recently fallen pregnant. I'm just over 6 weeks, and today have been experiencing period-like cramps in my stomach. I also have discharge which is a pink-ish orange colour, but hardly noticeable. (I only looked carefully because of my cramps. ). I have tried phoning NHS direct but cannot get through. Is this normal? Or can it be serious? Please help

If the cramps become severe or the pink discharge gets darker then please phone an ambulance.

Ah bless isn't it just so worrying! I'm just 7 weeks today and asked the same question on here about 3 days ago because I too was experiencing the pains and had some pinkish blood. I went to the hospital after I phoned them for advice. They did an internal scan which showed that the embryo had a heartbeat and had implanted properly. It was very re-assuring and the Doctor who I saw said that the blood loss was very minimal and not to worry about it. She told me to go back if it got to loss like that of an ordinary period...after three days it has stopped but I am still having some mild like cramping pains. I guess its playing the waiting game really but alot of women do bleed during the first trimester. Id call your local maternity unit and ask to talk to a midwife who may ask you to go in or stay home and rest? They all suggest different things. i do wish you luck and hope that the rest of your pregnancy is trouble free.

Can be a sign of miscarriage, drink plenty of water, lay back and relax. There is nothing you can do to stop a miscarriage if this is the case, but if you relax your body you might be able to prevent it from starting. It could also be implentation bleeding, the egg should have been implanted by now, but perhaps not... I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant with a baby that implanted late.. I have placenta previa as a result, but the baby is healthy. Just get some fluids into you and put your feet up pls.

I was in a car accident at 3 months prego.. the Dr told me all was fine and that the baby has some major padding in there, so don't worry about that, unless its severe cramping red blood. Pink blood is usually blood mixed w/ h2o. theres alot of blood being circulated when your pregnant . I know that dark brown blood is normal, but red blood is not. I would make sure you didn't cut yourself shaving, the cramping doesn't get worse, call the Dr. & he'll have a after hours line, they usually can anwer ??? or give u the nearest urgent care to go to, & get a sonnagram

I actually bled my whole pregnancy. Some women do. The first time I bled in my 1st trimester, the dr. thought I should deff. drink plenty of water, incase with the amni fluid not to go to low. Also with you growing down there, it might be stretching and causing spotting. The 2nd trimester I bled and end up staying in hospital for two days for observation, very bad cramps, the 3rd trimester I tried not to walk much, just take it very easy. But my case, I hate water, I really didn't drink much, and this was one of the reasons I was always cramping, and bleeding. The 2nd pregnancy went smoother, and I made myself drink more fluid. Also with my bleeding the whole pregnancy, they had me deliver my baby at 37 weeks (they thought I might have a placenta abrevia) It was tough, I was in labor for 50 hours! In Monday at 7 out Wednesday at 9. I would never have another baby induced again before 40 weeks. He deff. was not ready to come out, but what did I know for it being my first. The worst part, I could not eat one thing the whole 50 hours (rules of hospital)

hi, i had a misscarriage a few weeks ago, i didnt have any pain just brown coloured spootting to start with. When i rang the doctors they told me to just rest and see how things went. It can be perfectly normal to have slight spotting in the first few weeks, the implantation usually happens about the time your period is due. It can also be normal to have pains in early pregnancy. I had severe abdominal pain in my first pregnancy but went on to have a healthy baby boy!! If it gets any worse, like heavy bleeding or passing clots go straight to hospital. I would also ring your out of hours doctor now for some advice. Watch out for severve abdominal pain to one side and left shoulder pain, these can be symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. Hope things are ok

In your first trimester, cramps and a little spotting are normal from embryo implantation. However, if the cramps get severe or you start to bleed heavily, you should get to the hospital or doctor immediately. Heavy bleeding and cramps can be a sign of miscarriage, tubal implantation or maybe that one ovary never got the message, "Hey, we're pregnant." Ovaries take turns each month letting out eggs, and in rare cases that may happen. However, don't worry about it too much. You are most likely fine.

Hi,

Don't worry I'm 26 weeks pregnant and at 6 weeks I also had period like cramps and pinkish/ brown discharge. i went to the doctor who assured me it was only attachment spotting. The midwife then booked an immediate appointment for me to go for a scan and they detected a heart beat and the baby is absolutely fine.

Don't worry- of the spotting persists go and see your doctor but there's no need to call an ambulance!

Best of Luck- Edda

Someone i know is pregnant (ivf) and has been experiencing the same but worse.. she's been bleeding. She had an early internal scan and found out she was having twins, and that is why she was bleeding and it is normal. I've heard that sometimes it means nothing. Keep ringing the NHS. Good Luck.

hello, i'm emma also 6 weeks pregnant but with my 3rd. I am also experiencing the same symtoms as you, these are normal.
we get cramps due to the fertilized egg implanting into the uterus and slight blood shows during this time. Dont worry all normal !! if the symtoms get excessively worse see your doctor otherwise just take it easy. x congratulations by the way.

When your pregnant, everyone is different and experience different things, I will scheduled a doctor's appointment as soon as possible, because it might be something to worry about. Never take a chance during your pregnancy, if you feel something is wrong, then have it checked out no matter what opinions or experience you hear from other people.
