Never happened before so the title is open
Someone said former president, but then it detracts from the presidents proper stance
Someone jokingly said first pervert But
The proper title would be First Gentleman of the United States!

If he hadn't been a former President, I suppose the proper term would be First Gentleman for the husband of a woman President. I would guess that in the case of the Clinton's it would be situational as to which capacity he is appearing. State functions would require that he be referred to as the First Gentleman but in tasks that he undertakes in his capacity as a former President he would have to be accorded the title of Former President. The only country where this situation has ever arisen is Argentina and her husband was already deceased.

I imagine if she becomes President, they will mutually decide on how he is addressed and will arrive at a designation for him that does not dilute her position as the first woman president.

I think First Gentleman.

First Lady is supposed to be a title of respect, and not a statement of the relationship between the spouses.

Since he's already been president, however, I think that he would still be referred to as Mr. President. Don't they all get to keep that title? I have heard President Ford still being called "President Ford" in recent dialogs about him.

If a woman was voted in and her husband had never been president, I think "First Gentleman" sounds good.

Mr. President or president Clinton. The title that all present & past presidents hold.

I think of the term "Ladies & Gentlemen". Thus my guess would be that any man married to a future female President would be referred to as the First Gentleman officially. Of course many newspapers, etc., will shorten this to First Man.

I think he retains the title of President. Carter, Reagan, Ford, and Nixon were still called Mr. President in interviews and such.

They will call him Bill, as that is how he is, offically he will be either former president Clinton, or first gentleman.

He would still be given the title of former president, because that supersedes his responsibility as spouse to the president.
